Renewable Wind Energy

Like all energies on Earth, energy from wind also comes from the sun. The wind energy is generated by the heating and cooling of the earth each day by the sun. Therefore, wind has always been considered a renewable energy source for it will not be depleted in the foreseeable future.

Wind power is gaining more recognition nowadays as an alternative energy source especially because it creates little to no pollution during power generation. This involves converting wind energy into electricity by using wind turbines which creates reliable, cost-effective and pollution free energy. It is composed of propellers-like blades around a rotor and the wind is used to rotate the propellers to spin a generator. This motion of the wind turbine is called kinetic energy, which convert the power from generator into electricity. Because wind is a source of renewable and non-polluting energy, the power that is produced will not lead to greenhouse gasses or radioactive or toxic waste. Therefore, it reduces global warming effects.

How does it work? Wind power is converted into electricity by magnets moving past a stator (stationary part of a rotor system). As the magnets pass the stator, alternating current (AC) electricity is produced. It is then converted into direct current (DC) electricity which can be used to charge the batteries that store the electrical energy or can also be fed into the electricity grid. Typically, a wind turbine is enough to generate electricity for a household.
