Renewable Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Hydrogen is the simplest element. When burned, it produces an extreme amount of energy and no pollution is caused at all. It is traditionally used in the liquid form to propel rockets and space shuttles into the orbit.
The working mechanism of hydrogen fuel cells is often compared to those of batteries as both converts energy produced from chemical reaction into electric energy. Unlike batteries, fuel cell does not require any recharging and would continue to run as long as hydrogen and oxygen gas are available.
Hydrogen fuel cell uses pure hydrogen gas as its fuel and oxygen as its oxidant. The products of this reaction are water, electric and heat energy. A well controlled reaction produces no pollutants or green house gases, unlike the combustion of fossil fuels.
The rather high cost of obtaining pure hydrogen gas and storing it are the greatest challenge of this technology. Currently, most of the hydrogen gas in use is produced from hydrocarbons through the application of heat, which is known as reforming process.
Greenviron Eco provides various educational kits which demonstrate the mechanisms of a hydrogen fuel cell in a controlled and safe environment. Products available are:
