Quality Sound

Quality sound is a very subjective topic, just as everyone has got their own preference of music genre. However, noise is definitely an undesirable aspect of sound and is treated as a form of pollution. Noise pollution refers to the excessive and displeasing human, animal or machine-created environmental sound that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. The main sources of sound pollution are constructions activities such as drilling, pilling and hammering, and transportations such as vehicle, aircraft and rail noise.

Like any other forms of pollution, noise pollution in excessive level can affect both human and wildlife life. On human, noise pollution could cause stress, headache, hypertension and even damaged hearing. Noise pollution affects animal as it disrupts their delicate lifestyle. There are past cases of whale that beached themselves upon exposed to large sound produced by military sonar. Hence, noise pollution is a problem that definitely requires attention as it affects both the physical and psychological aspect of living things.

Noise is generally unavoidable and is part of civilization. However, tolerance is never the only solution to this problem. Proper use of technology as well as proper planning could reduce the impact of it. For example, residential housings are usually built away from expressway and airport in order to reduce the disturbance caused. Innovative products such as earplugs and noise cancelling earphones are few products that are able to alleviate this problem. It is however, still important for us to invest in long term solutions such as planting of trees, which are able to absorb noises, in order to improve the sound quality of environments.
