Water conservation refers to reducing water usage and recycling of waste water for other purposes such as cleaning and agricultural irrigation. It is becoming an important topic due to the decreasing quality water supply available all over the world.
The goals of water conservation are to ensure the continual sustainability of quality water, energy conservation and habitat conservation. Water conservation is linked to energy conservation as water pumping, delivery and treatment facilities require energy. Habitat conservation on the other hand, can be achieved by reduced water consumption, ensuring good supply of fresh water for wildlife and plants.
Water conservation can be achieved at various levels through adoption of water-efficient technologies and good practices. At home, it is recommended to install aerator in taps, dual-flush toilet and adopt water saving practice such as reducing shower time.
