Organic Food
Organically grown foods are becoming more popular these days as people become more concern about their health and the safety of the food they consume. The definition of organic foods refers to those foods which are produced, processed, and packaged without using chemical additives. The farming practices are designed to promote water and soil conservation, and reduce pollution. Organic foods also protect the consumers from heart disease and cancer because they contain Phenolic compounds which have some strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-clotting properties. Some of the popular organic food items include organic tea, honey, herbs, rice, coconut oil, and olive oil.
Organic foods need to meet certain requirements to be certified as organic; the food products need to go through a strict inspection to ensure that only organic methods are used in the production process and the environment is not contaminated with synthetic fertilizer, pesticides, bioengineered genes (GMOs), or other non-organic compounds. The labels for organically growing foods are created in order to make shopping easier for people who want to buy organic products. For example, for foods which are labeled as Organic need to contain at least 95 per cent organic ingredients, except for added salt and water, plus they must not contain sulfites added as a preservative.
There are five good reasons to choose organic foods over conventional foods.
