Cotton ranks second for the most pesticide use of all crops, thus it is not as environmentally friendly as people might think. Therefore, the production of this non-organic cotton has a tremendous impact on this world. Some of the consequences are: the air and surface water pollution as the result from chemicals being used, consumers’ skin irritation for having residual chemicals on the products, and the degradation of biodiversity and ecosystems equilibrium due to the use of pesticides.

Organic cotton, however, is grown from non-genetically modified cotton plants, without the use of any agricultural chemicals such as synthetic fertilizers or toxic pesticides, thus it has a low impact and less destructive to the environment. More farmers are now growing cotton without costly, harmful chemicals. Their yield is high and the cotton’s quality is equal to or even better than conventionally grown cotton.
